(FYI to Jessica's friends:
All missionaries in the SLC Temple Square Mission are sent "OUTBOUND" for 12 weeks sometime during their 18 month mission, to allow them to also experience a regular proselyting mission.  So tonight, Jessica  found out where and when she will be going OUTBOUND!!  Read on! . . . And remember, she CAN receive and send emails now to/from her family AND friends, so write her a quick sentence or two! . . . )

This is an AWESOME simple way to share about the Plan of Salvation and it's my #1 favorite method of sharing simply the Plan of Salvation to nonmembers.

So good.

Have a look!

Transfer 7, Week 4: Miracles, too many investigators, prepared next generation
Here are a bunch of us with the actual grandparents who were on the film, "God's Plan" (they actually came to the NVC!!!!!)

Dearest Family and Friends,

So we've been highly, highly blessed with investigators this transfer. . .(if you could pray for them too) of people we're actually teaching this week and next week. . .(18 people plus 2 families!!). . .We've been so extremely blessed. Two of these people are some of the most incredible young people I have ever met. One young man is 17, and the other is 18. Both are not members of our church yet, but love the Book of Mormon and know that it is true. Both want to be baptized and both are planning and saving to go on missions. They are incredible. This next generation, member and nonmembers alike, are so incredibly prepared to be God's army, instead of spreading destruction and fear, spreading joy and peace and rebuilding lives and families. Wow. . . .

And next, I just wanted to type up a letter I received from a woman I met in February on Temple Square.

 "Dear Sister Fisher,

I don't know if you remember me, but we met very briefly in the North Visitor's Center the last week of February. I was stranded by bad weather and stuck at the Greyhound station, so I decided to kill time with a nice visit to Temple Square. We had a brief conversation about how I felt like a failure as a missionary because I was able to do virtually no missionary work on my two day bus trip from Pennsylvania to Salt Lake City, but how I was determined to do better on my way home. I moved to start looking around and you went back to the desk, but you returned to my side very quickly with a Book of Mormon in your hand. You said simply "I think you're going to need this." Well, let me tell you what happened.

When I left Temple Square, I was quite sure who I was going to give the Book of Mormon to, but when I got back to the bus terminal, the spirit told me no. So I waited. I had some lively religious conversations in the terminal and on the bus, and ended up giving out five pass-along cards over the course of the two day trip, but it was in Fort Collins, CO that I met the person the Book of Mormon needed to go to. A young man, mid to late 20s, got on the bus and sat down behind me. His face and eyes were absolute blanks, as though he was totally shell-shocked. Over the next few hours myself and the people around us were able to pull him into conversation. This young man, B, had just been released from prison after serving a nine month sentence for assaulting two police officers. Seems that B was on medication that you don't dare mix with alcohol, but he went out drinking one night and ended up in a brawl. And so B ended up sitting on a Greyhound bus, heading home to Georgia to start his life over, with me in front of him.

For a long time I tried to figure when to give the Book of Mormon, and some of the pamphlets you gave me as well. But I never got a chance to sit next to him, or even to talk to him alone. I felt strongly that I needed just a moment alone with him so that there would be no other comments from the other passengers. We were in St. Louis, where B and I would go our separate ways, when the person eating lunch with us suddenly stood up and walked away. B and I got up to gather our things and I handed him the Book of Mormon (with several of the pamphlets tucked inside). I told him that I knew it could help him get his life back together and wished him well. It was all we had time for. He thanked me, put it in his backpack, and headed for his bus.

I suppose I will never know what happened to B, but I know that he was meant to have that book. I also know that I would not have had a Book of Mormon to give him if it wasn't for an inspired sister missionary at Temple Square. Thank you so much for magnifying your calling and being worthy to receive guidance from the Holy Ghost. May God bless you for all you do.

 -TK, Marysville PA"

 =========================
She is an exceptional example to me of a member missionary.

1. She was prepared. She had things to give someone, if she had the chance.

2. She prayed for the opportunity to give the materials to someone.

3. She trusted the Spirit to let her know who needed the materials.

4. She talked to all who would listen and opened her mouth to share what she knew would bless their lives.

I know that all of us can have this incredible opportunity as well. There are people who need the gospel all around us who know not where to find it. It is our job to pray for experiences, to pray to know what to say, and pray to know who to say it to. However, God doesn't guide a parked car. We just have to get up, be prepared by "fueling our engine" (having materials with us), and start driving (start talking with the people we're around all the time).

Don't fear. It doesn't have to be complicated or even rehearsed or eloquent. All you have to do is say "all the good things that have ever happened in my life are because of this ___________" and give it to them. You can even practice in family home evening what you could say to people.

In fact, here's your homework this week.

Next Monday for family home evening, role play the following questions and situations with your family members. It might be terrible, but just laugh about it, sometimes it's really funny how bad we are just at first. (Which was most of our entertainment at the MTC by the way... we're not experts either. We frequently count "awkward points" at the end of the night and laugh at ourselves for the awkward conversations we sometimes have.) Besides, if you get all the jumbles out in practice, it won't come out in the real thing.

1. So what do you believe?

2. So what makes you different from other religions?

3. Why do you __________________? (insert: dress modestly, go to church each week, not watch "popular" movies, pay tithing, not drink alcohol, etc.)

4. Why are you so nice?

5. Why do we need the Book of Mormon when we have the Bible?

6. How do I find peace in hard times?

7. Why are you so happy after your loved one died?

8. Who is God?

9. How do you know God loves us?

10. Why do bad things happen to good people?

Those are some of the most commonly asked questions we get as missionaries. So just pretend that one of your family members is the friend asking the question, and the other person is you- the member.

 Love you all,

Sister Fisher

Transfer 7, Week 3: CONFERENCE, Jon Schmidt, Rain, and the Beehive House

Dearest friends and family,

Wow. What a week. We hosted somewhere around 80,000 people at General Conference this weekend. But it was incredible. The week leading up to it we met wonderful valiant Latter-day Saints from Germany, Brazil, Ghana, Australia, Finland, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, all the islands you can think of, Taiwan, Korea, and many, many more. What a neat week. The Spirit, and their valiant souls and prayerful mentality, made Temple Square an even more heavenly place.

Our mission's new motto is "Whatever it takes." We exceeded our baptismal goal from last conference until this conference to a whopping 437 baptisms in 6 months. Wow. We're working hard, but know that everything we do, and everything we are, we owe to the Lord. there's a quote that I love that I heard this week:  "Is my life going to be a stumbling block, or a stepping stone?" That is the attitude that must accompany our new motto in this mission.

We received more than 3,000 member referrals this weekend and are ecstatic at calling and sharing with those precious souls the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, my time today is pretty slim so I'll just tell you that Conference was amazing, and Monday night, (President Gillette… A. Knows everyone in all of Salt Lake City, ….and B. Loves surprising us) after he surprised us with a taco bar, he also surprised our mission with a guest appearance of none other than Jon Schmidt himself--- one of President Gillette's neighbors. (Of course!)

It was awesome hearing him play pieces I had always heard taken brutally fast, and not musical etc. (what just happens when you are sort of a pop icon in music) but it was astoundingly beautiful (& different) hearing them from his fingers. He composed "Waterfall" (a very famous piece) when he was just 16, and hearing the other part of his stories were also incredible.   He played for us his arrangement of "O Come O Come Emmanuel" where the music video takes place in Goshen-- the very place we visited (another surprise of our mission president) just a few weeks ago. (View it here:  http://www.mormonchannel.org/more-videos?v=2008190983001)

But it was more than just his music that was so inspiring. It was the messages he left us with.

1. Pray always.
He said that many times he would get stuck composing and it would be difficult, and what he'd do is he'd leave his piano bench and kneel on the ground and pray. Usually within the prayer, and sometimes afterwards, an idea would come to his mind of how to resolve it. Sometimes though, God had him struggle on the piano longer, thinking through the problem and all the various solutions to resolve it. He said that one of the famous Mormon artists, the modern Michaelangelo, who was commissioned to paint the Manti Temple, that is what she would do. She'd come to a problem as she painted and she and her assistant would get down from the scaffolding and come all the way down and just say a prayer, and then crawl all the way back up and continue onward.

Pray in every situation and every experience. Pray to get closer to God. Let Him know that you need Him. In all ways acknowledge Him. He knows all things. He knows how to pole vault, He knows how to do statistics, how to play the violin perfectly, He knows all the thoughts and intents of our heart, He knows how to speak Chinese, He knows how to play Hockey, He knows all the ideas, inventions and theories- for He was the one to inspire those minds to think those thoughts. Prayer is the way we become unified with God, our Heavenly Father. Prayer is the greatest gift we are given.

 2. Tell the Lord you are His.
He said that he knew with clarity that he was supposed to go into music. It would be hard. He knew it would be difficult and unsteady to provide for a family, but God told him it was what he needed to do. He said that as long as he and his wife would put God first, and make sure that Heavenly Father knew that He, Jon Schmidt was completely His, miracles will happen.  He said that there was the time where they had a $20,000 miracle. But as they did everything to show that they put God first in their life, and devoted their talents and time and family to Him and His work, they knew that it would be okay. He said that sometimes that's all they could do--- live off a prayer. But this was an opportunity to trust and rely completely on the Lord-- "lean not to thine own understanding." Proverbs 3:5-7

 3. Write down the worries, and translate it into a prayer.
He said that in their life they had many worries, many concerns and troubles. But instead of worrying about it, they would write down those things and try and put it into words. Next they would translate those worries into a prayer. Then they would leave it at Heavenly Father's feet and do all they could with the knowledge they did have and leave the rest to Him. They said that 98% of those prayers were helped and resolved, and the other 2% didn't really matter anyway as time would tell and they would look back at the situation.

 4. "Virtuous thoughts are not negative thoughts."

 5. The Lord will take care of you.
His wife, who also served her mission in Norway like he did (at a different time), gave us this advice. Don't worry. It'll take care of itself. The Lord will take care of you. She said that when she was on her mission she was 25, and she worried about what happened before her mission, what happened on her mission, what happened after her mission, if she'd get married, if she'd get fat... etc etc. She said "Don't waste your time. It'll be okay." And turns out, like she told us later, all her concerns when she finally turned them into a prayer and laid them at Heavenly Father's feet, did work out. Her desires, did come true. Everything took care of itself.

Maybe these things will help you too. I realized in my life that I am so apt to trying to do things my way, by myself, and then when I finally can't do it at all, that is when I ask for help. Instead, I can ask at the beginning, in the middle, through the hard parts, through the joy and the pain, and at the very end in our triumphant success. Prayer and including God in every aspect of our life, helps us realize that it is Him, and His grace and His Son's help that were the only reasons for our success.

I know that we all have talents, capabilities, and gifts that God has given us to expand the work. I also know this:

"Men and women who turn their lives over to God will find out that he can make a lot more out of their lives than they can. He will deepen their joys, expand their vision, quicken their minds, strengthen their muscles, lift their spirits, multiply their blessings, increase their opportunities, comfort their souls, raise up friends, and pour out peace. Whoever will lose his life to God will find he has eternal life."  - Ezra Taft Benson (http://www.lds.org/new-era/1975/05/jesus-christ-gifts-and-expectations?lang=eng)

I know these things are true. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.

My challenge this week is to write down your worries and concerns. Put them down onto a piece of paper, and then pray, and leave it at Heavenly Father's feet. Do everything in your power and according to your knowledge and then let it all rest. Let it go. Let the Lord bless you for your righteous desires and efforts, and then pour your heart out in thanksgiving for all that He does and has and will do for you.

Love,

Sister Fisher

PS. Oh and S is going to be baptized in June when he moves to Utah! (He prayed about it all night apparently and that was the answer that came).

Transfer 7, Week 2..?: Beehive house buddies, CONFERENCE!, S miracle, fasting works, Grace

 Dearest family and friends!

Do you know what time it is again?

That's right. The most exciting time on Temple Square:

CONFERENCE IS HERE!!!!!!

Yeah we're all super duper excited about it. We're so pumped! All the people we meet are totally ready, and you can literally feel the Spirit how strong it's here now this week. It's because of all the prepared spiritually minded people who come here. But it's different the Square the week before Conference. We've met people from Africa, Brazil, Germany, England, Mexico, France, etc. all coming here to watch Conference. So exciting!

This week was so long and full of so many experiences. I'll share just a few with you today.

We called S last night, (our Tennessee friend) and we really had no idea what to say to him. He's been taught everything, just has a few small problems... This weekend we gave him two talks to read and watch, "our big guns" so to speak:  Safety for the Soul by Elder Holland, and Profile of a Prophet by Hugh B. Brown. A lot in those talks were things he needed to hear.

Tuesday morning in companionship study we studied for him. Sister O had a thought that we should read a chapter in the Book of Mormon with him during our lesson. But what chapter? We had no idea. So that morning we prayed and asked God. I immediately thought of 2 Nephi 31. It was like my brain froze and the only thing there was 2 Nephi 31. So we turned there and read it, and it just wasn't quite right. But then we turned to the next chapter- DING DING DING! There were so many things in 2 Nephi 32/33 that answered his questions, brought things clearly and were powerful. After all, it was Nephi's last words.  So we called him that night and mentioned the process that we discovered what we needed to talk about that night. As we were flipping to the place in the Book of Mormon, S asked, "Where are we reading?", and we said "2 Nephi 32 and 33." And he said "Nuh-uh! No way. Really?" And we were pretty surprised until he said, "That was the exact chapter the Elders last night talked with me about." Woah.

The Lord knows what S needed to hear and when God's servants ask Him what, we all get the same answer. It was powerful. A real confirmation that revelation still exists today. I wouldn't say that with the thought I had, I immediately knew that it was from the Holy Ghost, or that it was revelation or anything.  It was more like that no other thoughts occurred, and that one popped out. Almost like the same feeling as when you think, "oh I left my milk out!" or some menial thought like that. What was different? I prayed directly for a specific answer, and I needed to be lead to what I should teach. I asked, and that answer came while I was STILL praying.

Notice that God didn't lead me exactly to the chapter I needed to share. Instead He led me to the place in the scriptures that I was already familiar with- 2 Nephi 31 is a very commonly read chapter. And He then trusted that I would be able to know by reason/logic/understanding S's needs, that it wasn't the chapter, but then as I flipped over (to a chapter I have never shared yet with people on my mission) that I would know that it was the one that needed to be shared.

After we read the chapter and spoke about parts of it, and specifically read 2 Nephi 33:4-5,
"And the words which I have written in weakness will be made strong unto them; for it apersuadeth them to do good; it maketh known unto them of their fathers; and it speaketh of Jesus, and persuadeth them to believe in him, and to endure to the end, which is life beternal. And it speaketh aharshly against sin, according to the bplainnessof the truth; wherefore, no man will be angry at the words which I have written save he shall be of the spirit of the devil."

We asked S, "Does that sound like what a Prophet of God would say in His last words?"
"Yes."
Then we asked him, "Do you believe that Nephi was a prophet of God?"
And he said, "Yes."
"And what does that mean then?"
"That the Book of Mormon is true."
"And what does that mean?"
"That the Church is true."

"And...?"
"And that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God."

We asked him how he felt as he said those words out loud. He said, "I feel like my heart is being clinched." And I asked, "Like it's swelling?" and he said "yes."

We testified that we knew that this was the Holy Ghost testifying to him that what he had just said was true.

We then asked him "Will you prepare yourself to be baptized by someone holding the Priesthood Authority of God?"

And he said... "Yes. I want to be."

YES!!!! :) We've been praying, pondering, studying and fasting for the last three weeks for him, especially after he missed his other baptism date! The Lord DOES hear prayers! And fasting DOES work!

 Other miracle:
We met a family the other week. I'd like to include part of the email we received from them:

"I would like to personally thank you both for the tour ... and for sharing your knowledge with us. The blessings of sharing the Gospel are plentiful and generous and I thank you for sharing your testimonies with me and my family. I was raised LDS and was baptized when I was 9.

My father was Protestant and my mother LDS. My father protested my baptism and required that I study at least three other faiths before telling him why I wanted to be LDS. I studied Catholicism, Judaism and the Protestant faiths. The more I studied, the more I knew my choice was right. I still know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only true church and that our modern day prophet is President Monson. My testimony grew stronger there in Salt Lake City and I know it was the right place to take my family for vacation. My husband is not LDS and the children have been raised to know Christ but are not LDS.

We had agreed that the children would be exposed to many different faiths before they were tasked with choosing the faith that is right for them. They know of the Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price and the Doctrine & Covenants. They have had discussions with me ( and occasionally missionaries) about other faiths. They have been challenged with questions about the beliefs of others compared to LDS beliefs. Their faith is fragile and growing but they are now more inquisitive than ever and seek to know The Lord as they never have before. My husband is full of questions as well. Their excitement is amazing and I love to see them grow - especially because I know where it will lead!! They are so excited that they all want to move to SLC which we are now investigating seriously.

The boys have been reading their Books of Mormon that you gave to them diligently. It is my testimony to you that I know this is the true church of God and that I know my family's hearts are open to the message that you have shared with them... Again, I thank you both for sharing your excitement and love of the church and your testimonies with me and my family. Please share our contact information with our local missionaries and accept my sincere gratitude. My prayers are with you that your light shines as brightly in the hearts of all who visit you as it has in ours."

There is nothing as wonderful as these two experiences have been, for a missionary to have.

My challenge this week is for you to prepare a list of questions and concerns, the things that are bothering you or keeping you up thinking about before you go to sleep at night, and write them all down. As you listen and watch Conference, and write down ALL of the thoughts you have as the speakers give their prepared messages, I promise you that you will receive answers from God.

These thoughts and answer may have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with what the speaker is saying, but EVERYTHING to do with you, and your life, and the details that concern you.

God loves you. He is your Father. He cares about the details. He has a perfect plan, that is perfect for you, and perfect to make you become all that He sees you becoming.

I still remember, October 2011 General Conference, when I took this challenge. ...So I wrote the things that concerned me down, and I received answers that were thoughts, things like "go visit this person." "Sign up for these classes." "Call this person" .... all the way up until #13 - which I saw my hand write what was given to me in my mind- "go on a mission."

And I am here today because of that revelation. And I have never been happier. Turns out all those other things I wrote down, would help me prepare for the biggest one of all - going on a mission.

Get excited about this spectacular work, and amazing time we live in.

Love you all,

Sister Fisher

Transfer 7, Week 2: Goshen, India, Nephi, Tekita, and S

HI FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

So President Gillette loves surprises. And we do too :)  . . .  In a mission meeting on Saturday morning he announced that after about a year of effort, they planned a mission trip to where the church's Utah property is with the SET OF JERUSALEM for the BIBLE VIDEOS!   http://www.lds.org/bible-videos/?lang=eng

Wow. It was incredible. We went Monday morning. Our guide took us through the "Temple of Solomon" (as accurate as they could be), and "Golgotha" AND "Gethsemane". Wow was it an incredible experience. The Spirit was really strong there.

The Church looked for land to film these videos on for years, and one option was Morocco, where another set they had was already built. But the cost was astronomical. A year or so before the idea to make these Bible videos of the life of Christ came out, the Church acquired a plot of land that turns out had a foundation of sand--- it was a sandbar, the bottom of an ancient lake. So sand goes for many, many feet down. It was perfect. Perfect conditions for Jerusalem to be filmed. All the main characters in the videos had to be recommend by the Prophet himself and the Apostles in charge---- Elder Bednar and Elder Scott. They all had to have a Temple Recommend and be approved by them. So, the actors that played Christ, Mary, and the 12 apostles all had to be chosen through this process. Our guide particularly mentioned how the man playing Christ always felt as if he was unable to play that role, unworthy to play such a part. Our guide said that this man is still so Christ-like. He says that he treats everyone on the set, even the smallest roles with kindness and respect and gratitude. He is always praying and fasting to be able to accurately portray his part. Pretty neat.

The most spiritual place was "Golgotha". It is on a hill near the set, and there is only white limestone (just like the original in Jerusalem everywhere there) broken up all around the ground, and 3 empty crosses. We sang the hymn, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", but I couldn't get many of the words out. I just kept thinking in my mind the words: "There is a green hill far away, outside a city wall." (That's exactly where we were.) And "How dearly, dearly, has He loved, and we must love Him too, and trust in His redeeming love, and try His works to do."

Then I looked down at my badge that I wear over my heart each day for the last 9 months. It has His name on it. What an honor and what a privilege that He trusts me enough to do His work, to be His hands. This place just felt so holy. It wasn't even the spot where it all happened, but because it was set apart by an apostle for this sacred work, it is holy. Because of what it represents, it is holy.

Another really cool thing too- India!!!!
So we met this couple and their son... FROM INDIA!!! on the Square. The couple was visiting their son who got a job here in SLC. His father had researched a lot about our faith and so many of the similarities. He knew who Brigham Young was and Joseph Smith and about the First Vision. He wanted to go inside the Temple so badly. He felt the Spirit. He wanted to learn more! We gave him a Book of Mormon in English (his English was pretty good, but his wife spoke none). He was very excited! His son said, "My father is very excited right now." hahaa!

Sister O then asked the father- "Do you know that this is the true church on the earth? Would you like to meet missionaries in India?"

And he said very enthusiastically- "I know this is the truth! The true church! and I WILL FIND THEM IN INDIA!!!" So much joy!

But the moment I will never forget, is when we showed them a copy of the Book of Mormon in Hindi, their native language. The wife clutched it to her heart and was ecstatic. She giggled with joy and spoke rapidly in Hindi to her husband as she recognized the book and was so thrilled. She kept saying" Thank you Thank you!!! ", not understanding, though, that it was a part of the Visitor's Center display.  I was so tempted to just give it to her and then I could go buy one later and replace it. I should have.

But anywho, we told them that they could go buy the book in Hindi at Deseret Book just across the street and she was BALLISTIC! She spoke rapidly to her husband and he said "Yes, yes, we will get you the book!" The Lord is preparing people ALL OVER the world for this exciting message!

Speaking of this exciting message...here's a quote from one of my favorite talks by Hugh B. Brown---- Profile of a Prophet. If you haven't read this talk, YOU MUST.

In part of it, it says, “Mr. Brown, I wonder if your people appreciate the import of your message. Do you?” He said, “If what you have told me is true, it is the greatest message that has come to this earth since the angels announced the birth of Christ.”

I testify to everyone that it is true. This is the greatest message since the birth of Christ....that He lives, that He loves, that He speaks to us today, that He calls a prophet on the earth again to lead and guide us back to our Father in Heaven, that He was resurrected, that He broke the bands of death, that He completed His task in the Plan of Salvation and because of this, we can all return again to God, that He restored the same Priesthood power and authority that He gave to His original apostles 2000 years ago, again to His servants today, and that miracles still happen because of this power, and that sins are washed clean and the Holy Ghost is given, and actually received because of this power, to those willing to follow His example into the waters of Baptism, and most importantly of all..... that families are sealed together for eternity, in the same unity they enjoyed here on earth, into the eternities.  This is all made possible because of one man -- Jesus Christ.

I testify that I know these things are true. This is my testimony to all of you this Easter season. That is what this is all about. That is why the Church spent tons and tons of money, and lots of prayer and fasting to produce those videos depicting further what happened. And that is why I am on a mission to testify, clarify and help convert people to.

He is Risen, He is Risen. Death is Conquered, man is free, Christ has won the Victory.

Love,
Sister Fisher

PS. We have the most wonderful news: S contacted us again after the baptism did not take place last week, and were working with him some more and he actually went and visited the Nashville, TN Temple. Keep him in your prayers. We have a WONDERFUL miracle investigator named T from Georgia (I know we always get the southerners), and her daughter . Pray for her. She is pregnant and does not have a job right now and might have to move back to Mississippi, even though the ward is fantastic where she is and her Elders there in Georgia are incredible. Please keep them in your prayers. They desperately need it.
